Review: Private by Kate Brian

PRIVATE is the first in a series about a bunch of teenagers attending a posh private school in New England. It doesn’t sound like a particularly smart or original book, and that first impression would be, for the most part, correct. It’s not as fun to read as I would have expected, either, but it did get me hooked on the series--enough so that I’ll probably read INVITATION ONLY, book number two!

Reed Brennan is a scholarship student at Easton Academy eager to leave her dull suburban life, drug addicted mother, and complete lack of a social life behind in Croton, Pennsylvania, and Easton Academy looks like her ticket out. Reed will do anything to fit in with her overprivileged classmates, especially when the Billings Girls take notice of her. They’re the most popular and powerful clique on campus, and, being the new girl, joining their ranks seems, to Reed, like the perfect way to finally find her place at Easton Academy.

No part of this book is exceptionally wonderful, but it’s all good enough to pass a few hours reading it. None of it is exceptionally bad, either. The characters are rather flat but not terribly so, and the story itself is rather unoriginal but not horrible. The writing, too, is decent but not wonderful. I expected more from Kate Brian after reading her wonderful book MEGAN MEADE’S GUIDE TO THE MCGOWAN BOYS, but this book serves its purpose--it’s enough to get readers hooked on the series!

Rating: 7/10

ive read all 4 books in the private series and i think they are really really good the twists are so clever you never see whats coming. i was totally wrong about the 4th book i thought i had it all planned out my prediction was so off. i cant wait until the 5th book. i dont think it will be as good as the others because of the new characters but if its by kate brian it has to be good.

i thought these books were amazing.
it kept me salivating for more everytime i finished a book i was ready to move on to the next in the series. i was bummmed out about noelle when i finished reading confessions but it's all good :) can't wait till inner circle & hopfully kate brian brings back some of the old characters because if she doesn't it just won't have the same feeling.

I actually loved the book. I had read the first one a year before I had read the rest. My friends and I sort of read and passed them along like a book club assembly line and it's our favorite series. A year after reading the first one I could dive right into the second one and still remember details from the last book- it was that memorable. We are all waiting for the next book coming out in MAy

Thomas gets killed by Ariana; all the Billigns girls leave, and new ones replace them. before long Reed starts dating Thomas's roomate Josh Hollis, who later Cheyenne tried to steal, but in a bit Chyenne gets killed, and Josh starts dating Ivy Slade, and Noelle goes back to Billings, and finds out that Reed has been hooking up with Dash, and yeah and later in Revelation Reed gets kicked out of Billings, and she finds the killer of Cheyenne-who is SABINE DELUC, who is also Arianas sister, yes and in the end Sabine fires a gun at Reed, but we wont know if she dies.

enjoy Kids.
